Learn the history behind the walls of this monastery located on the outskirts of Valencia.

The monastery is one of the best examples of Valencian Renaissance architecture. When you visit you can admire the beautiful façade of the monastery with its three kings, walk through the corridors where the vicereine of Valencia, Germana de Foix, used to walk and visit her mortal remains in the crypt of the monastery church.

Founded in 1546 on the site of an old Muslim farmstead, it originally served as a royal pantheon, a Hieronymite monastery and a church. Over time, the pre-existing constructions have been modified, creating new buildings with other uses such as a residence for nobles, a prison, a storehouse for crops and a school.

It currently serves as the Valencian Library, housing more than a million Valencian documents or documents related to Valencian culture.

Visits are free of charge. To do so, you must book in advance and respect the established health and safety measures.
