Exhibition “Kimono. From tradition to fashion” (Valencia)
The Silk Museum of Valencia is hosting this exhibition on the kimono, the most traditional and characteristic Japanese garment, which will be open to the public until 28 February.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover the secrets and peculiarities of this very special garment and to explore into Japanese history and culture through it.
The kimono, used from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, has gone from being an everyday garment to being worn on special occasions such as coming of age and graduations or in ceremonies and formal situations such as weddings, funerals and the tea ceremony.
The exhibition brings together 31 complete outfits. How a kimono is dressed, how many pieces make it up and what accessories should be included are some of the curiosities that are answered.
